Anyone up for doing some formula sailing this Sunday? How about either Melbourne or Merrit Island?
Best Regards:

Steve, sounds good to me, only a pitty there is the atlantic ocean in between.
I hope to be in US for work one of the comming months. I will for sure visit Florida when I get there.
Are you racing also at Daytona beach where you have all the beautifull girls with small bikinis?

Hi Koen:
Right now the girls need to wear pretty big bikinis as the wind is blowing about 20+ and the air and water are cold. Most of the windsurfing in Daytona is off the beach so this time a year the shore break is a bit tough on formula gear. Come spring it is better suited for Formula gear with aftenoon sea breezes most days. Let me know when you come to Florida.

Looks like its a go for Kelly park on Sunday. We might want to get started fairly early if the forecast holds true.
SUNDAY...NORTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 20 KNOTS DECREASING TO AROUND 10
KNOTS IN THE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SEAS 3 TO 5 FEET.

I can make it. Beth at Banana River Resort said we can practice there, very open and side onshore on a northwest.

Sebastian Inlet might get a few more of us from the South interested.
Also good for any West conditions.
BRR is also better on a west.
NW is not too good at Kelly Park.
I have to do six hours of driving for Kelly Park, which I'm willing to do for some quality TOW.
I'll keep an eye on the forcast.

It sounds like at least five people are into it . My plan is to head to Kelly Park as this is where the Midwinter's will be and it makes the most sense to train there. Also the latest forecast is for Ne winds.
.SUNDAY...NORTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 15 KNOTS. SEAS 2 TO 4 FEET AND
HIGHER IN THE GULF STREAM. INTRACOASTAL WATERS A MODERATE CHOP

I think Kelly's okay on a NE. Too bad the downgrade in magnatude. Of course, NWS guessers are using statistics.... Based on some of their past forecasts, anything goes. Nothing new there. Hope to see y'all there Sunday. BTW, bring some wave gear too. Never know what'll end up happening. We've got a nice launch nearby that works great for a NE.

Forecast is kinda grim today. Bring an alternative plan if you still want to make the trek. Surf is small. Still big enough to putter around on though... SFL looks worse. And nothing much different up to Fernandina either.
Sometimes, we can get a half hearted NE thermal with this kind of condition. So, if it heats up enough inland, the wind will veer to the NE and strengthen a bit. Best place for that is Playalinda to Daytona. But, I've seen it fill in at the Adairs house south of Kelly as well.

Well the light forecast scared most of the formula sailors away. The wind turned out to be a little better than the forecast. It was very light in the morning but by early afternoon we had an up and down 6 to 13 knots. Unfortunately the wind got lighter the further out you went so it kind of gave us a small corridor to sail in. We got lots of practice pumping onto a plane and riding on very smooth water. Still lots of fun but not quite ideal.

Aye it was a strange wind indeed Sunday. NNE to NE 7-14 mph. The space between the bridges had the best wind. I suspect it was the wind funneling thru... Just a guess. The eastern half of the river had alot less breeze both days this past weekend.
Sat. was SW and even warmer inland, so, again, I suspect the seabreeze was trying to work its magic that afternoon too. It didn't quite have the umph to overcome the SW. Gotta be a little warmer to overcome the very wind that helps it get strong in seabreeze season. Fascinating stuff, wind.
