What is it? Heard about it. Will anyone do it in the US? Or, since nobody I know has heard of it, is another European only thing? Steve? Patrice? Anyone?

Hello:
The Formula Experience class is designed as a feeder class for Formula racing. With the rising cost of formula boards and rigs the need for a class that is more affordable has become an issue to many racers. For 2004, some Formula boards are costing as much as $3000 dollars in the USA market. Add 3 sails a couple of carbon booms, masts and some custom fins it gets pretty expensive.
The Formula Experience class has many more limitations. The boards must be of ASA construction which right now is limited to the Bic Techno Formula and 2 ASA Starboard models. The maximum sail size allowed is 11.0 and the boom must be aluminium. The class rules were fixed for 4 years so the product would remain competitive. I believe the rules can be changed for the 2005 season, so lots of things may change. One thing being discussed is allowing prior year formula boards to compete. Sounds like a good idea, as it will give these boards some higher resale value.
